Matty Football Challenge: Week 16

Wow, what a great round of Arena Football League we have this weekend. Classy QB’S like Whitehurst, Clausen, Smith, Manziel, Keenum, Hill, Orton and Lindley all starting. What?? This isnt the Arena League. It’s the NFL???  The most iconic position in American sport has come to this. And looking at the QB’s coming out of college this year, I can’t see the next Brady or Manning anytime soon.

Week 15 was a slight winner, going 9-7, but the Bears, yes I know again the BEARS, couldn’t do anything for us on Monday night. Jags, Titans, Bears. Lucky I have a high pain threshold because these teams have hurt me big time this season.

Picks in bold…….all picks must cover the spread for a WIN….

Titans (+3.5) @ Jaguars ESPN Friday 12.30

Thank God this is the last Thursday night game of the season and this looks another doozy. The Jags and Titans are a combined 4-24 and have been putrid most of the year. Unlike Oakland, who may have found their QB of the future in Derek Carr, these two teams look no closer to having anything like a franchise QB.

Jacksonville’s Blake Bortles has been sacked more than anyone in the league and has the unenviable line of eight TD’s and 15 interceptions. He has struggled with a sprained foot most of the week but is likely to play. For the Titans, Jake Locker got hurt again last week and unfortunately is out of contract at season’s end. With the dour Mettenberger also out injured, they turn to 32-year old veteran Charlie Whitehurst. This won’t be a great watch but you can’t seriously expect me to give points and take the Jags.

Interesting Stat: Titans have won 3 of the last 4 against the Jags

Eagles (-8.5) @ Redskins

RGIII vs Sanchez….This could be fun to watch. Hoping one of the sportsbooks opens a over/under market on turnovers. My moneys on over…Eagles must win

Interesting Stat: Eagles have won the last 3 against the Redskins.

Interesting Stat: Skins have lost 19 of last 22 regular season games….yikes!!

Chargers @ 49ers(-1.5)

Tough game to pick, but I’m taking the Niners at home. Season is over for them and the Chargers still have a slight chance of making it, but must win their last two. Worryingly for the Chargers are the injuries to leading receiver Keenen Allen, RB Ryan Matthews and most importantly QB Philip Rivers, who has been carrying a bad back injury and didn’t train on Wednesday but will likely play.

Vikings @ Dolphins (-7)

Ravens (-6.5) @ Texans

Unfortunately the Texans have run out of quarterbacks. Low-scoring game should go the way of the Ravens. The line on this game has moved from 4 to 6.5 and rising. Case Keenum has been signed off the St.Louis practice squad and could have a tough day against the Baltimore D-Line.

Interesting Stat: Ravens have won 6 of last 7 against the Texans

Lions (-8.5) @ Bears

Jay Cutler has been benched and replaced by Jimmy Clausen, a guy who hasn’t started since 2010. Detroit won ugly last week against the Vikings but should stomp on the dreadful bears in Chicago. Detroit by plenty.

Browns @ Panthers (-3.5)

Cam Newton returns for the Panthers but more importantly the Johnny Football soap opera moves to Week 2. This is great viewing and if you thought he was bad at home, what’s going to happen on the road?

Interesting Stat: Panthers have won 3 of last 4 against the Browns

Falcons (+6.5) @ Saints

Packers (-10.5) @ Buccaneers

I think this may be too many points on the road for the Packers, who are travelling for the second week in a row and are starting to look a little suspect away from home after laying an egg in Buffalo last week. They average 43 at home but only 21 points on the road. But the Bucs’ defense is a little different to the Bills. Packers bounce back…

Interesting Stat: Tampa Bay head coach Lovie Smith has lost 6 in a row against the Packers

Chiefs @ Steelers (-3.5)  7Mate Monday 5.00

Patriots @ Jets (+10.5)

No, I don’t think the Jets can win but I think at a wet, cold, windy MetLife Stadium, the Jets make it a low scoring struggle.  21-13 Pats…

Giants (+5.5) @ Rams

Bills @ Raiders (+6.5)

After a big home win against the Packers, I think this might be a letdown game for the Bills. The Raiders by 7…

Interesting Stat: The Raiders have won 9 of last 10 at home against the Bills

Colts @ Cowboys (-3) 7Mate Monday 8.25

DeMarco Murray is likely to play even with the broken left hand. He was limited in practice on Wednesday but will be ok come Sunday. Broken hand or not, I don’t think it matters against this average defense. The Colts leading receiver T.Y Hilton is in doubt with a hamstring injury and like I said last week, I don’t like what I’m seeing from the Colts the last month and I think they get beaten quite comfortably at Jerryworld…

Interesting Stat: Cowboys have won 5 out of last 7 at home against the Colts

Seahawks (-8.5) @ Cardinals ESPN Monday 12.30

Interesting Stat: Cards have won 6 of last 8 at home against the Seahawks

The Seahawks don’t score many points and nine is a lot to cover on the road but this Seattle defense against Ryan Lindley…Happy to give the points here…

Broncos (-3.5) @ Bengals ESPN Tuesday 12.30

Yes the Bengals won well last week against Johnny Football. Now they face the polar opposite in Peyton Manning…Broncos are starting to find form again, they win by 10

Interesting Stat: Broncos are 4-0 under lights this season..

Last Week: 9-7

Lock of Week: Steelers (-3.5) vs Chiefs

Season : 112-111
