Matty Football Challenge: Week 13

Our man Matty Football is 88-88 on the season. Something has to give this week and there are plenty of great matchups, including three big Thanksgiving Day games.

Week 12: NY Jets @ Buffalo (in Detroit): Less preparation, more performance

Buffalo fan Sean Walsh is ecstatic, yet realistic about his Bills, who had no problems with the New York Jets, despite a disrupted preparation that forced them to play a “home” game in Detroit.

Week 12 – Baltimore @ New Orleans: Steve Smith Sr. rejuvenates the Ravens

James Caughlin watches the Ravens hand the Saints their third consecutive win at home and says a major inspirational force in the game – as he’s been all year – was veteran wide receiver Steve Smith Sr.

Week 12 – Tampa Bay @ Chicago: Josh and Lovie’s return gift for Chicago

Declan Boffa watches Tampa Bay blow another game, but ironically (hilariously?) the 2-9 Bucs are still in the playoff hunt in the woeful NFC South.

Week 12 – Washington @ San Francisco: Sleep school in more ways than one

Josh Slocum is at sleep school with his young family, but can’t help sneaking peeks at the 49ers/Redskins score. Luckily for him, the baby kept sleeping and the Niners woke up just in time.

Week 12 – Arizona @ Seattle: Drew Stanton draws a blank

James Caughlin assesses the state of the Arizona Cardinals, who may have a tough time remaining among the NFL’s elite despite a strong defense and the decent play of backup QB Drew Stanton.

Week 12 – Detroit @ New England: A tale of two running backs

Last Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers released LeGarrette Blount. According to media reports, the running back was angry about his reduced role on the team, and had walked off the field while the game against Tennessee was still going. Understandably, the Steelers decided they wouldn’t tolerate this sort of behaviour and cut him. As soon as [Read more]

Week 12 – Arizona @ Seattle : Even Metallica has limits

Metallica have lost a few key players through the years. Likewise, take out two of the Cardinals best performers and things aren’t going to be the same. Oh, and Seattle are finding some key form when it matters most. Steve Baker borrows Ed Wyatt’s seat at CenturyLink Field as the NFC West heats up.

Week 12 – Tennessee @ Philadelphia: Dismember the Titans, now it’s Dallas week!

After missing last week’s loss to Green Bay (deliberate?), Philadelphia fan Scott Langford is back with another entertaining Eagles’ tale. It’s a win over Tennessee just ahead of a huge Thanksgiving Day clash with Dallas.

Week 12 – Miami @ Denver: One to remember

Tony McLeod was at Mile High on a cold Sunday in Denver, as the Broncos and Miami Dolphins played one of the most important – and competitive – games of the season.

Week 12 – Dallas @ NY Giants: Catch it like Beckham

A painful but predictable loss to the Dallas Cowboys has New York Giants fan Ashley Browne calling for changes to the coaching staff. But he is excited by one thing: another exceptional performance by rookie wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

Week 12 – Cleveland @ Atlanta: The redemption of Brian Hoyer

When last place Cleveland (6-4) met first place Atlanta (4-6), the man of the hour was Browns’ quarterback Brian Hoyer who went from villain to hero in a crazy fourth quarter.

Week 12 – Kansas City @ Oakland: Raiders’ black hole takes down Chiefs

Hooray! For the first time in 2014, Greg McLeod gets to write about an Oakland win! The Raiders put on a late drive to sneak past the Kansas City Chiefs 24-20 and give their home fans something to cheer about.

Joe Buck: Did He Kill Bambi or Something?

People, it seems, love to hate sports commentators. And there’s a special kind of hatred from fans when it comes to NFL’s number one Football and Baseball caller Joe Buck. Steve Baker asks why?

Matty Football Challenge: Week 12

Matty Football has your Week 12 picks, plus some interesting facts, including Peyton Manning’s lifetime record against the Miami Dolphins – would you believe 5-7?

Week 11 – San Francisco @ NY Giants: Adding Fewell to the fire

After an ugly loss to San Francisco, Cody Royle says the heat is on the New York Giants coaches and players, and none more so than defensive coordinator Perry Fewell.

Week 11 – Seattle @ Kansas City : I am the Walrus, Koo Koo Ka Choo

“The sea was angry that day my friends. Like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli…” A very ornery Steve Baker checks in from Arrowhead Stadium where the Chiefs accounted for the reigning champions.

Week 11 – Oakland @ San Diego: Happy one year anniversary of our last win

It’s tough work being an Oakland Raiders fan and once again, Greg McLeod finds very little to get excited about. You know it’s bad when he’s praising the punter.

Week 11 – New England @ Indianapolis: Rush hour

Is the Patriots rivalry with the Colts still as fierce with Andrew Luck as it was with Peyton Manning? New England fan Sam Wilkinson ponders the situation after another Pats victory.

Week 11 – Tampa Bay @ Washington: Spread the Mike Evans love

Tampa Bay fan Declan Boffa is excited for a change, after his Bucs cruised past Washington, with rookie wide receiver Mike Evans continuing his stellar season and setting a couple of records.
